For years, I’ve been pouring over images of dreamy lavender fields on my Pinterest boards — endless rows of purple, glowing in golden light, with soft sunlight filtering through the flowers. I would save these photos with a mix of admiration and longing, always wishing that somewhere close to home, we had something just as magical here in Adelaide.
In 2023, that dream finally came true.
That was the year Hahndorf Lavender Farm opened its gates to the public for the first time — and from the moment I saw the first photos, I knew I had to shoot there. I could already picture the whimsical family sessions, romantic couple portraits, and ethereal golden hour light that would bring those Pinterest dreams to life.
So I made it my mission to get access to this incredible venue.
Meeting the Magic Makers: Nicole and Thomas
That’s how I first met Nicole and her husband Thomas, the owners and visionaries behind Hahndorf Lavender Farm. From the moment we spoke, I knew they were something special — two of the kindest, most passionate people I’ve ever met. Their love for the land, their flowers, and their community was obvious, and they were more than happy to open their gates to a small number of local photographers who shared their vision.
To my absolute delight, I became one of only a select few photographers granted exclusive access to the farm — and not just during public hours, but before the Bloom Festival opens and after the gates close to the crowds.
Why This Lavender Field Is Unlike Anywhere Else
Hahndorf Lavender Farm is now the largest lavender field in South Australia, and hands down the most photogenic. But what truly sets it apart isn’t just the size — or the endless rows of stunning lavender — it’s the whole magical experience of the farm itself.
It’s not just beautiful flowers you get to enjoy. The farm is full of life, from the resident kangaroos quietly hopping through the fields, to the cheerful calls of kookaburras dropping by. You’ll also meet the farm’s adorable goats, gentle Highland cows, and their friendly farm dog, all adding a unique charm and warmth to your photoshoot.
On top of this enchanting environment, what truly makes this location special is the exclusive access I can offer my clients:
Exclusive early access: We can shoot 4 days before the public is allowed in.
After-hours access: Sessions are available from sunrise (6am) to sunset (8:30pm) — outside normal public hours.
Private areas of the farm: Some parts are reserved just for us, which the general public and other photographers never get to see.
That means:
